Sally McLean has over
twenty years business management experience - covering a diverse range of
industries – focused on communication strategies for business change and/or
development. She has an inside out approach to business development and
specialises in recognising who the client really is, in each and every scenario
(internal and external), and managing the relationship with that client to produce sustainable
business growth.
She has worked
in Boston, Brussels and San Francisco, as well as Australia for high profile
corporations including Johnson & Johnson, Konica Minolta, Ansett, Olivetti, IPL,
Hilton International and Gartner; as well as local and state government
agencies.
Having in-depth experience
with the vagaries of start-ups, and the many challenges of growth and/or change
strategies, she enjoys the results of well-planned communication strategies.

Johnson & Johnson (NSW)
Worked with the Strategic Services Manager to create a report and recommendation
for a new telecommunications provider and in Australia/NZ, based on analysis of
tender results. Delivered an evidence based report and recommendation for
distribution. I created a visual presentation, together with narrative, to be
delivered to the Finance Officers in each business unit by the Strategic
Services Manager.
Konica Minolta (NSW)
Worked with the Bid Manager on a specific bid plus interviewed multiple business
units to produce a suite of templates, capturing Konica Minolta’s capability,
for use in future bids.
Aristocrat (NSW)
Produced an industry specific training manual for the Aristocrat sales team and
delivered sales training including follow up assignments for the team members
and one on one capability assessment. Created templates for workflow analysis
and customer relationship building.
International Business Improvements (NSW)
Created a website and designed the logo and full livery for the brand. Created
templates for corporate proposals and presentations.
Dept of Human Services (South Australia)

Contracted to examine the current organisational structure of the ACS and
compare it to best practice in similar organisations. Document desired state.
Investigate internal culture and define "as is" state. Conduct gap analysis
between ''as is'' and ''desired'' state. Document change process and high level
risk analysis. Document internal communication strategy for change.
Tasks included:
Ø
Conducting an investigation into the ACS current operational model
including discussions with all branches as well as reviewing surveys, plans,
recommendations and meetings documented over the last ten years.

Reviewing the operations of other Societies, and researching
global workplace trends, and comparing them to current practices within the ACS.

Creating a graphic representation of the proposed model and
providing definitions of the proposed terminology.

Tabling the consequences of both the current and future situations

State Records

A public relations exercise for State records, I was engaged to write a
promotional article on the Marion City Council’s success at applying and RDM
matrix (records and document management). Interviewing Council participants and
State Records Manager and preparing an article for the State Records Magazine
and for the newspaper.

Experience Matters (South Australia)
Created an intranet linking a disparate group of consultants into a single
entity. Worked on the strategic marketing plan for the group and created a

presentations. Chaired a CIO best practices group and documented the outcome.
Wrote PowerPoint presentations and scripts for the consultants to deliver to
potential clients both as part of a bid for new business and/or as part of a

Representing
Information Technology trends and strategies from the world’s largest IT
Research Organisation to Government and Corporations in South Australia.
Designed and
delivered the public relations campaign necessary to establish the Gartner brand
in South Australia. Established a CIO Breakfast Club and the CIO Best Practices
Group. Grew the local base five-fold in three years and signed the first
‘whole-of-government’ deal in Asia Pacific. Worked closely with the major
Government portfolios on organisational structure and strategic planning
workshops.
Wrote and
delivered complex presentations at CEO, CFO and CIO level.
Prepared and
presented original proposals in spoken, written and visual format that were
later used as the Gartner standard throughout the Asia Pacific region.

was an initiative of the University of Adelaide (Campus Technologies)
and was the first commercial ISP in South Australia.

Having written
the Strategic Business and Action Plan, I successfully established the Internet
Services Division (the first commercial ISP in South Australia) during the
formative days of the Internet industry (1993) - implemented communication
strategies, products and pricing cloned by other ISPs. Designed
all of the marketing material and
corporate presentations.

IPL
are manufacturers of plug-compatible storage media for the AS400 market
(including exabyte tape drives and raid technology disk drives). Their
head office is in Boston USA. |
After visiting
the Boston and Brussels operations of IPL, I effectively established an IPL
Regional Office in Australia to support and expand distribution channels (direct
and indirect) in Australia, NZ and Pacific Rim.
Devising and
implementing a regional public relations strategy, including marketing plans,
magazine advertising and press releases, and succeeded in establishing key
channels and a strong market presence with high profile reference sites.

Olivetti Australia

Hardware Manufacturers:
Olivetti are well known manufacturers of
office equipment. Headquartered in Ivrea, Italy, their primary market
was high end banking systems prior to the PC revolution of the 80s in
which they actively participated. |
Initially Business Development Manager
for Oliservice (Engineering division of Olivetti) and later established the IBM
mid-range division (Ibimaint) in Adelaide.
Ibimaint was a
division bought by Olivetti in Europe and it arrived in Australia as a totally
unknown product/service. I established the brand using industry publications and
events to promote the brand and built a marketing database based on user
criteria.
Became Branch
Manager of Ibimaint. IPL was an IBM plug compatible peripheral manufacturer and
their products where distributed through Ibimaint (one of IPL's channels).
Appointed IPL
Product Manager for Australia. Won the IPL Top Achiever’s Award In Australia,
which resulted in visiting the USA and the offer to work directly for IPL and
establish their brand in Australia.
